Bocce Bonanza

On Veteran’s Day, we finished the biannual bocce tournament with the Bocce Bonanza.  I thought I had already posted this on the web, but I was wrong.  So a very belated congratulations to Matt Buttimer and Matt Kirk of team PhatAss.  They defeated Caitlin Palmer and Brandon Caliendo of Team Five (very original name, guys).

Here is the final bracket:

Bocce Rules

Start of the Match
The match shall begin with the flip of a coin between the captains from each team. The winner of the coin flip may have the first toss of the pallino or choose the color of the balls.

Playing the Game
The player who originally tosses the pallino throws the first bocce ball. Their ball is now the closest to the pallino, so the other team throws their bocce balls until they’re closest to the pallino. Teams alternate in this manner until all bocce balls are played. A team rotation is decided before the match and is followed throughout the match.

A pallino knocked out of play will be returned to the playing area closest to the point that it went out of play. Any bocce balls out of play are considered dead balls and cannot count in the scoring.

Scoring
The team with the bocce ball closest to the pallino scores one point for every ball that is closer to the pallino than their opponent. Teams then play another frame from the opposite end until reaching game point. The team who scored last throws the pallino to begin the next frame. Games are played to twelve points.

Bocce

Well everyone who wanted to had the chance to warm up their bocce arms this past Friday at the BSCES Bocce Tournament.  Now that amateur night is over, it’s on to the main event.  The registration is closed, the bracket is made (courtesy of VP Matt Buttimer), and it’s time to get the show on the road.  It’s your responsibility to check the bracket, contact the team you’re playing against, and get your game played.  The brackets went up this past Saturday and everyone needs to have their first round completed by next Saturday.  Once your game is over, update the bracket yourself and move on to the next game if you can.  If you need bocce balls, swing by the ASCE office on the 4th floor of Snell.  If no one is in there, try Tillman or Sheahan’s office.  If you have any questions, contact either of the VPs using the contact page.

BSCES Bocce Tournament

Yesterday’s tournament was a great success, thanks to all who participated and a special thanks to the organizers.  Congratulations to our winners Matt Buttimer and Ryan Snow of team (PhatAss)’ and runners up Mike Seluga and Mellisa Recos, the Bumper Bandits.  Over 60 people signed up and we had a great turnout with pizza, soda, and cupcakes courtesy of Kaity McCarthy and Dana Peck.  We look forward to having another tournament with the Younger Members group soon!

UPDATE - BSCES Bocce Tournament

Good news everyone! The BSCES website is broken. So you can’t register online like I said before. Instead, you’ll need to sign up with me. So email me at citizendane-@-gmail.com or if you’re lucky enough to see me in real life let me know you want to play.

You’ll still need the $5 registration fee. You can either pay me or bring a check to the tournament. The registration deadline is still THIS FRIDAY, September 26th.

If any of this is confusing, you have any questions, or you have no idea what I’m talking about, email me at citizendane-@-gmail.com and I’ll help you out.

BSCES Bocce Tournament

NUASCE has teamed up with BSCES Younger Members Group to sponsor a bocce tournament. We invite you to join us for a fun evening of bocce and student-professional networking. There will be pizza and prizes for first and second place.  You can see the flier here.

BSCES is the Boston area chapter of ASCE. Their Younger Members Group is comprised of young professionals who have only been out of college for a few years. This will be a great opportunity to connect with young, working professionals.

The event will be held Friday, October 3rd from 5-7 PM on the quad directly behind the Curry Student Center. There is a registration fee of $5 for students to cover expenses for pizza and prizes.

The registration deadline is THIS FRIDAY, September 26, 2008. You can register online at BSCES.org by following the directions on this PDF.

Hope to see you all there.
