Eliot Bridge Dedication

We just spoke with our Charles River Conservancy representative on the Eliot Bridge Phase II project.  The dedication ceremony won’t be until next spring.  When the weather starts to get better next year, we’ll have one weekend of planting bushes and shrubs and then the dedication ceremony.  I’ll let everyone know when that happens.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Eliot Bridge Wrap Up

This semester’s community service project is finally complete.  After initial design began during the fall of 2007, we completed construction last Saturday on our Eliot Bridge Phase II project.  All we have left is to plant some native plants in the spring.  We’ll have a dedication ceremony sometime this fall or next spring that I’ll let everyone know about when it happens.  We’d like to thank everyone who came out to make this project a success, including staff and alumni, as well as the DCR for yet another opportunity to showcase what NUASCE can do for our community.

I’ve been remiss in posting photos of our progress as regularly as I should have, so I’d like to take this opportunity to showcase the community service project team hard at work.

Eliot Bridge in the news!

This year’s community service project, the Eliot Bridge Phase II staircase, is in the Huntington News this week!  Go check it out!

Update: I don’t trust the rest of the internet, so here’s a PDF of the article.

Community Service

Just an update that there is no construction this weekend. Last weekend we had such a successful turnout, we were able to finish all of the boxes on Saturday. With this said, the next step cannot happen until we can do construction at the site. As previously mentioned, this work cannot begin until after the Head of the Charles Regatta (Oct. 18-19). The Saturday after the HOCR is when seniors are taking the FE exam and there is some sort of campus-wide community service event, the first construction day on site will be November 1. More details will be forthcoming, but please mark this date as we would like everyone to have an opportunity to participate at the site.

In addition, if you have not emailed us about having a car, please contact Chris Meurer at cmeurer [at] coe [dot] neu [dot] edu to let him know so there is a better idea of how everyone will be able to get over to the site.

Eliot Bridge Phase II Day 2

The community service group got together Saturday, 04 October 2008 from around 10 AM to 3 PM to finish pre-construction of the staircase boxes.  We were a little shaky on direction at first, but we figured out what we needed to do and got a lot of work done.  We’re pretty much as done as can be until we can get out on site after the Head of the Charles.  We made 10 staircase boxes and pre-drilled each for the connections.  If you have any questions about this year’s project or want to get involved, contact Dane LaBonte via the contact page.
